A Lakeshore Concert
|
Description: In celebration of the Lakeshore Concert Band's 30th Anniversary in 1997, we chose to record our very first compact disc. Entitled "A Lakeshore Concert" and comprised mainly of Canadian music, this collection contains many traditional folksongs. Two of the selections are recorded here for the first time. Jim Duff's concert band arrangement of Petty Harbour Bait Skiff is a Newfoundland folk tune featuring a euphonium solo by the LCB's Ivar Traa. The Suite on Canadian Folk Songs was written by LCB founder Morley Calvert and is a fitting addition to this collection. The CD also features a marvelous saxophone solo performance by the late Mr. Gerald Danovitch. Mr. Danovitch was one of Canada's finest musicians, and is greatly missed.
The band's long-standing focus on summer concerts in community parks is reflected in the CD's cover illustration by local artist Pierre Cochand. It is a sketch of the Frank Richmond Memorial Bandstand located on the waterfront in Dorval, Québec. The bandstand was inaugurated by the LCB in August of 1994.
